Książka zawiera materiały z XVII Międzynarodowego Sympozjum Metafizycznego (11 XII 2014 r.) z cyklu „Zadania współczesnej metafizyki” poświęconego współczesnym sporom w sprawie naturalnych granic życia ludzkiego. Publikacja składa się z trzech części. W pierwszej, noszącej tytuł: „O życiu i śmierci w ogólności”, zostały zamieszczone teksty dotyczące zagadnienia życia w ogólności, jak i życia ludzkiego, jego pochodzenia i początku, a także prób filozoficznego wyjaśnienia śmierci. W drugiej części książki, pod tytułem „Życie i śmierć: dysputy problemowe”, zostały podjęte szczegółowe zagadnienia dotyczące życia w perspektywie biotechnologicznej, teologicznej, filozoficznej oraz etycznej, np. problemu zapłodnienia „in vitro”, legalizacji eutanazji, statusu bytowego embrionu ludzkiego, stanu nieba i piekła, hipotezy „anima separata”, genetycznie modyfikowanych organizmów, technologii przedłużania życia, itd. Trzecia cześć książki, zatytułowana „W trosce o kulturę życia”, koncentruje się na niezbywalnej wartości dobra bezwzględnego, jakim jest ludzkie życie, i koniecznością budowania kultury i cywilizacji życia, zdolnej przeciwstawić się współczesnej cywilizacji śmierci. W książce zamieszczono obszerną bibliografię tematyczną.

The Dispute about the Beginning and End of Human Life

in the series "The Tasks of the Contemporary Metaphysics" (17)

The book contains materials from the XVII International Symposium on Metaphysics (11 XII 2014) in the series "The Tasks of the Contemporary Metaphysics". It concerns contemporary disputes about the natural boundaries of human life. The publication consists of three parts. The first, entitled: "About Life and Death in General", includes texts on the issues of life in general and human life, its origin and beginning, as well as attempts to philosophical explanation of death. In the second part of the book with the title "Life and Death: Disputes and Problems", is found specific questions about life in the perspective of biotechnology, theology, philosophy, and ethics, e.g. the problem of “in vitro” fertilization, legalization of euthanasia, the ontic status of human embryo, state of heaven and hell, the hypothesis about "anima separata" (i.e. the separeted soul), genetically modified organisms, technology of prolonging life, etc. The third part of the book, entitled "Caring about the Culture of Life," focuses on the inalienable value of absolute good, which is human life, and the necessity of building a culture and the civilization of life, able to resist the modern civilization of death. The book contains an extensive thematic bibliography.
