Książka stanowi piątą pozycję w serii „Rozmowy z Ojcem Krąpcem”. Dialog dotyczy tym razem sztuki i jej filozoficznych źródeł. Przywołuje się szczególnie dwie tradycje filozoficzne: idealizm i realizm, by na ich gruncie ukazać współczesny spór o sztukę. Jednak rozmówcy nie poprzestają na prezentacji sporu sztuki i antysztuki oraz jego filozoficznego zaplecza, lecz zmierzają do rozstrzygnięcia czym jest sztuka, jakie są racje tworzenia, o związek sztuki z realnym światem i kulturą ujmowany pod kątem prawdy, dobra i moralności, piękna oraz religii. Poruszają również problem humanistyki i jej roli w wyjaśnianiu (interpretowaniu) dorobku sztuki, a w tym przede wszystkim jego oceny pod kątem roli kulturotwórczej (książka zawiera wykaz polecanych lektur: tekstów źródłowych i literatury uzupełniającej na temat klasycznej teorii sztuki oraz estetyki i antyestetyki).

The book is the fifth in a series of "Conversations with Father Krąpiec." The dialogue is about art and its philosophical sources. It recalls especially the two philosophical traditions: idealism and realism to show, on this basis, contemporary disputes about art. However, interlocutors do not stop on presentation of dispute between art and anti-art and its philosophical basis, but tend to decide what art is, what are the reasons of creation, what is the connection between art and real world and culture in the context of truth, goodness and morality, beauty, and religion. The authors also raise the problem of the humanities and its role in explaining (interpreting) achievements of art, including, in particular, the assessments of the culture-forming role of art (the book includes a list of recommended readings: source texts and supplementary literature on the classic theory of art and aesthetics and anti-aesthetics).
