W obszernym wprowadzeniu od tłumaczki znajdziemy uwagi o historii badań nad księgą XII Metafizyki Arystotelesa, jej autentycznością, autonomią treściową w stosunku do innych części dzieła, relacją do pozostałych prac Stagiryty czy chronologią powstania. Themistius’s Paraphrase of XII Book of Aristotle’s "Metaphysics" is a kind of commentary on the title book, containing a lecture on the substance, its types, nature, functions, up to the first substance and its role as the cause of movement in the world. Themistius analyzes the nature of internal and external causes, the properties of the first cause, such as eternity, unchangeability, unity, its relation to other causes of movement in the world, and finally its character as a purposeful cause. The book contains Latin text and the first Polish translation by Monika A. Komsta with a commentary, a dictionary of terms, a bibliography, indexes of persons and concepts. In a comprehensive introduction from the translator, we find remarks on the history of research on the book XII of Metaphysics of Aristotle, its authenticity, content autonomy in relation to other parts of the work, relation to the remaining works of Aristotle and the chronology of the creation. An extremely interesting part of the introduction is: the story of the Themistius’s Paraphrase as a special form of commentary prepared for school use, discussion of its contents, so the Themistius’ concept of God with difficulties, and remarks about the extraordinary fate of subsequent translations of the paraphrase.
