Książka otwiera nową serię wydawniczą „Scripta Philosophiae Classicae”, zawierającej studia i komentarze z dziedziny filozofii realistycznej, a dotyczy miłości jako podstawowego sposobu życia człowieka. Tytułowy paradoks opisuje trudność wynikającą z przyjęcia dwóch twierdzeń: (1) najwyższą postacią miłości jest bezinteresowna miłość wobec drugich osób; (2) wzorem i podstawą każdego typu miłości jest miłość siebie, zgodnie z którą człowiek kocha innych z uwagi na swoją doskonałość (miłość interesowna). Autor w oparciu o analizę osobowego działania opisuje naturę miłości, różne jej postaci: (jako uczucia, jako aktu woli) i rodzaje (przyjacielska, pożądliwa), a także formułuje aporie i uchyla twierdzenia składające się na tytułowy paradoks. Bazą źródłową dokonywanych analiz są teksty św. Tomasza z Akwinu, a praca stanowi studium z antropologii filozoficznej pogłębiające rozumienie człowieka i jego osobowego działania.

A study in philosophical anthropology based on St. Tomas Aquinas’ writings
The book opens a new series "Scripta Philosophiae Classicae", containing studies and commentaries in the field of realistic philosophy, and applies to love as a fundamental mode of human life. The title-paradox describes difficulty arising from the assertion of two statements: (1) the highest form of love is disinterested love for another person; (2) model and the basis for any type of love is self-love, according to which man loves others because of his own perfection (interested love). The author on the basis of analysis of personal action describes the nature of love, its various forms (a feeling, as an act of will) and types (friendly, lusty) and formulates aporias and repealed statements that make up the title-paradox. Source base of made analysis are texts of St. Thomas Aquinas, and the work is a study of philosophical anthropology deepening the understanding of man and his personal actions.
