Monografia Byt – Człowiek – Kultura. Studium z filozofii kultury podejmuje zagadnienie metafizycznych oraz antropologicznych podstaw kultury. Autor wykazuje, że filozoficzne rozumienie kultury wymaga odniesienia do metafizyki oraz antropologii filozoficznej. Pozwoliło to na uzasadnienie tezy, że u podstaw rozumienia kultury znajduje się określona wizja świata oraz koncepcja człowieka, szczególnie w aspekcie celowości jego życia. Teorie kultury z zakresu nauk szczegółowych należy dopełnić poprzez odniesienie do specyfiki wyjaśnienia filozoficznego, którego signum specificum stanowi wskazanie czynników bytowych, uniesprzeczniających fakt kultury: a) wewnętrznej struktury bytu ludzkiego, wyrażającej się w relacji możności i aktu; b) rozumienia człowieka jako jaźni natury rozumnej, a więc bytu wewnętrznie złożonego, aktualizującego swoje dyspozycje naturalne w zakresie poznania, działania oraz tworzenia. Właściwym polem dla podjęcia rozważań nad kulturą jest personalistyczna i realistyczna filozofia, która sięga do najbardziej fundamentalnych rozróżnień, a jednocześnie zachowuje wierność faktom. Taka filozofia jest kompetentna, gdy chodzi o wskazanie istoty wytworów względnie procesów kulturowych, czy też o ocenę ich „kulturalności”, jest także zdolna wskazać ich sens i zasadniczy cel, unikając zarazem arbitralności.

Being – Human – Culture. A Study in Philosophy of Culture

The monograph Being – Human – Culture. A Study in Philosophy of Culture presents the problem of metaphysical and anthropological foundations of culture. The Author shows that philosophical understanding of culture requires reference to metaphysics and philosophical anthropology. This allowed to justify the thesis that at the basis of understanding culture lies a specific vision of the world and the concept of man, especially in the aspect of his life’s purposefulness. Theories of culture in particular sciences should be complemented by reference to the specifics of philosophical explanation, the signum specificum of which is an indication of living factors that make a fact of culture non-contradictory: a) the internal structure of a human being, expressed in the relation of potency and act; b) understanding man as a self of rational nature, that is, an internally complex being fulfilling its natural dispositions in terms of cognition, action and creation. The field that is appropriate for undertaking considerations on culture is personalistic and realistic philosophy, as it reaches to the most fundamental distinctions and, at the same time, is consistent with the facts. Such a philosophy is competent when it comes to identifying the essence of products or cultural processes, or to assessing their "culturality". It is also able to indicate their sense and basic purpose, while avoiding arbitrariness.
